Dentures and Partial Dentures

If you’re missing all or some of your teeth, it can be difficult for you to speak and eat efficiently. In cases where other types of tooth replacement therapies aren’t an option, our San Diego dental office provides denture and partial denture therapy to patients who need to have their smile restored. Full dentures will replace all of the teeth, while partial dentures are shaped around any existing teeth and replace the ones that are missing. Dr. Refahi’s mission to be one of the best dentists in San Diego means he offers various denture types to his patients.

Dr. Refahi provides two types of full denture therapy in his San Diego dental implants office:

All on Four (Implant Retained Dentures)

“All on Four” dentures are a thinner type of denture prosthesis that is permanently held in place with four dental implants, allowing patients to replace all of their teeth in an affordable method without the typical removable dentures. All on four dentures are very comfortable to wear and held securely by the implants, making them durable and easy to eat, speak and smile in. Implant retained dentures are made to stay in place and are only removed by your dental implant dentist.

Conventional Dentures

This type of full denture is placed when all teeth are missing or have been removed, with enough healing time given for bone and gum tissue following any necessary extractions. Conventional denture therapy may require a few months for the entire healing process to occur before the dentures can be made. We also remake dentures for new patients who no longer have properly fitting dentures and need assistance with eating and speaking.

Immediate Dentures

This alternative form of denture therapy allows Dr. Refahi to take detailed measurements of your mouth prior to having any necessary extractions performed. With this guide, a denture is fabricated to fit your mouth as if the tooth or teeth were not present. This allows patients to come in and have any necessary teeth removed and the dentures placed immediately in the mouth with no healing time required. Immediate dentures prevent our dental patients from needing to go without their teeth for several weeks of normal healing time. However, we do have our immediate denture patients return for a follow up visit with dr. Refahi so that he can adjust your new dentures to any bone or jaw changes that have occurred during the healing process in our best San Diego dentist office.

Adjusting to Your New Dentures

Anyone who has denture therapy in our San Diego dental implant office will tell you that it takes some time to adjust to the new appliance. Wearing your new dentures as directed will help you learn to eat and speak with them more effectively, making you more comfortable over time.

Caring for Your Dentures

Taking proper care of your dentures will extend their life as well as how well they fit into your mouth. Not wearing them properly can actually cause your bone to reshape and not allow your denture to fit properly.

•           Take your denture(s) out every night and allow them to soak in a container of water or denture cleaning solution.

•           Brush your dentures thoroughly to remove any plaque or food debris. Dentures can get tartar buildup, too.

•           Use cool or room temperature water when cleaning your dentures, as hot water could cause reshaping of the acrylic.

•           Ask your dentist if you need to have them adjusted. Never try to adjust your dentures yourself as they could become damaged.

•           Properly fitting dentures never require the use of denture adhesives. If your dentures are not fitting properly ask Dr. Refahi to have them adjusted.
